Here is a classwork blog I made about the media theories I learnt for componant 3. While I studied many theories for examinations, I’ve only included theories I think will be helpful to me in my componant 3 project. This blog was done by me (Cassie).

REFLECTION:
My role in creating this presentation helped me understand how media builds meaning across gender, identity, industry, and audience. An example would be the theories of Judith Butler, Laura Mulvey, and Liesbet van Zoonen showed me how gender is shaped and represented in media which can give me extra insight on how to represent our main star, especially since she is a woman. Other theories like persona, branding, stardom and artist brand image showed me how identities are carefully constructed in order to appeal the audience, and will help me when I am trying to construct an identity for my star. Other theories such as Media ownership by Curran and Seation, Theory of fandom by Henry Jenkins, and end of audience by Clay Shirky were also very helpful to know how the real world media works, and let me know more about audience and industry. One problem was that even though these theories were helpful, it takes time to really understand in depth and applying the information clearly into the slides or real life. However, to solve this, I did a lot of research and managed my time pretty well in order to get it done quickly. I mostly remembered things I learnt in class because we often do note taking or active recall along with group discussions, which made things much easier. Next time, for future projects I would improve the efficiency of my researching skills and control my time to finish projects.
