This is the mood board for component 3. The mood board was created by Kellie and I (Cassie), but I (Cassie) created this blog.

What is a mood board and its purpose?
A mood board is a sort of “collage”-like arrangement of images, colors, textures, texts, etc. It is usually made to visual a certain concept, style, or aesthetic. A mood board could be used as a reference tool to gain inspirations in creative fields, or in our case, when creating and directing a music video, artist persona, social media pages, etc. It helps put everyone’s thoughts into a few or one cohesive page where we can understand the branding in just a single look. Since ideas shared audibly might be misinterpreted, a mood board ensures the vision is consistent and everyone understands it.
Application to our music video:
We plan to make a mood board for our music video to the song “POV” by Ariana Grande, where the lyrics talk about a couple in a positive manner. We created a storyline between a boy and a girl, where they carry out their dates to the song. To effectively target our target demographic and psychographic, we had to decide things such as their style, lifestyle, hobbies, etc to match up with the target audience. Creating a mood board was very necessary in order to let the actors know what to wear, what to do and how to act. Besides that, it helps my team reach a better understanding of what exactly we are making.
Below are the characters and representations Kellie and I created mood boards for, that will be features in our music video.

1. Ellie Collins
Ellie in our music video, is a sweet and imaginative “girl next door” who loves daydreaming. She’s gets shy easily, but is always confident in her craft. She’s very artistic and enjoys things like photography, painting, doodling, and anything creative. She has an almost vintage aesthetic with modern aspects to it, this would be known as a “down town girl” aesthetic in today’s terms. She loves vintage things, such as records, vinyls and digital cameras. She also enjoys going to the park and the beach, soaking in the scenery. She’s known to be a hopeless romantic, always imagining romantic scenarios and yearning for that feeling.
2. Karl Williams
Karl in our music video, is a mysterious guy at first when Ellie and him first meet. Overtime, he warms up to her, becoming a sweet partner, often going out with Ellie and doing small gestures to make her happy. They share their passion for photography, reading, and music together, where they can spend hours together just enjoying these hobbies together. He has a more modern fashion style compared to Ellie, but he still has some hints of vintage charm. He likes to take many pictures and videos of Ellie, to capture each moment with her.
3. The Couple
This couple represents a very healthy, positive romantic relationship. Their relationship is relatively new, meaning this music video shows the first few stages in a relationship, or what we could call “the honeymoon phase”. They meet at a record cafe, where they bond over their shared passion for old music and records/vinyls. The couple is very sentimental, going to new places together while capturing each other in photographs for memories. This relationship is very sweet and wholesome, and Ellie is glad she finally can feel the emotion of love.
4. The Dates
This couple frequently goes out on dates to all sorts of places. Beaches and parks are one of the couple’s top visited places as Ellie loves to spend time there, especially with her new found lover, Karl. They also go do artistic activities together, such as photography, playing instruments, reading, etc. Thus, they bond over their shared hobbies and passions. Once again, they love going to photo booths to capture memories, especially vintage BNW ones! Where they’re going doesn’t really matter to Karl, as long as he’s with Ellie, he doesn’t mind tagging along.

How did we create the mood board?
Firstly, to collect the images, I created a shared Pinterest board where all the members could add images or “pins” to the board for easy photo collection and to further solidify our vision and aesthetic. Pinterest is known for having higher quality, unique, and specific images compared to other image sites such as Google. I also created sections in the mood board, so it would be easier to find and reference in case we ever needed inspiration, especially for the actors who need to prepare the clothing and other mis-en-scene.
Lastly, we used Canva to create the mood board itself. Canva is a convenient editing platform that allows multiple people to work on a design at the same time. It’s beginner and user-friendly, which made it easier for us to upload and arrange the images we downloaded from Pinterest. I also happen to be very familiar with Canva as I used it often for other subjects and work. This allowed the creation process of the mood board to go by very smoothly and quickly, giving us more time to actually create the mood board blog, since we decided to do it individually.
Reflection:
The mood board was very enjoyable to do, as constructing the vision of how you want the music video to look was actually very fun! Collecting and editing the pictures together was no hassle at all, and it was finished really quickly. One problem I experienced though, was that I totally lost motivation to actually work on the blog post after the fun part (creating the mood board itself) was done. I’ve never made a mood board for a media project before, but I made countless of blog posts, that it seems like a chore to me now. A proper solution to this would be motivating myself with reminders that “If I do it now, I won’t have to do it later” and “If you do this good and on time, you’ll get a good grade” which are my main motivators that mostly work. Usually, getting a friend to accompany me while I work on blog posts also seems to trick my brain into focusing. Next time, I’ll remember to use my motivating techniques and maybe set up a reward system to keep me going. Specifically for mood boards though, I’ll be sure to write my ideas down on the blog post first, before I start creating the mood board.
