Location Scout + Risk Assessment ⋆౨ৎ˚⟡˖ ࣪

Here is the location scout and risk assessment for my documentary project. This was made by Sagara.

Screenplay + Script .☘︎ ݁˖

Here is my screenplay + script for my documentary project. This was done by me (Cassie).

Changes We Made:

1. We added more dialogue in the detective interview, as we felt like we needed more content for that particular scene. We also cut out some parts, as we did not need all the dialogue. We filmed it more for “just in case”.

2. We scrapped the call idea, and instead let only the stalker talk, instead of both the stalker and the victim. This is because when we put the voices together, it sounded a bit strange due to difference in audio quality. We also figured the stalker talking alone sounded better, so we kept it as that.

3. We didn’t follow the script exactly. It was difficult to memorize lines exactly, and sometimes we needed more dialogue, so we did alot of improvisation, especially Candra and I.

Storyboard ⋆˙⟡

Here is my storyboard for my documentary project. This was made by Candra and Maisie. However, blog content and the first attachment, aside the drawings itself is written by me (Cassie).

Below, I noted down my ideas for the opening scene.

My teammates all agrees on this idea, so we decided to use it for the storyboard with a few tweaks. Below is the first draft of the storyboard, which was very detailed. Unfortunately, It was very time consuming and would take too much energy to make.

So, we created another, less detailed storyboard of the next scenes. This one took less time, but was equally as informative. Since we may not follow the storyboard identically, we should not use too much energy on a very detailed storyboard.

Additionally, we all watched a video on storyboarding in order to effectively draw storyboards. The video is placed below. This video was helpful as it taught us what was worth writing, drawing, detailing, etc so we could make it high-quality and efficient.

Changes We Made:

1. In the first shots, we decided to use a tracking shot in the dark of the stalker, instead of the girl. We want to make it clear from the start that this is a stalking documentary, and it might be hard to make that connection if it’s the girl walking first.

2. We ditched the narration and phone call. We decided a voice mail/phone call inspired dialogue of the stalker is a better fit, and made the atmosphere very uneasy.

3. Instead of random visuals/establishing shots, we decided to use the tracking shot of the girl walking. We used it to create a connection between the girl and the stalker.

4. We used alot of the scenes in the next storyboard, however just later on in the documentary. After this, we kept the detective’s interview scene so he can introduce the case.

Classwork ୭ ˚. ᵎᵎ

Here is my classwork for my documentary project.

What are technical elements?

Technical elements in media are the tools, technique or equipment used in the production process to convey meaning, emotion or narrative to an audience. There are four technical elements: Camera, Sound, Mis-en-scene and Edit.

1. Camera

2. Sound

3. Mis-en-scene

Mise-en-scene refers to everything placed in front of the camera within a frame. It includes all the visual elements that shape meaning and atmosphere.

Types of Mise-en-Scene:

Setting

- Costume and Makeup

- Lighting

- Props

- Color

- Staging and Acting (performance, movement, expression)

- Composition (framing and spatial arrangement)

4. Edit

Since I am not the editor of the group, I only briefly learnt editing techniques and how to edit with the youtube video below.

Statement of Intent ⋆˚꩜。

This is my statement of intent for my crime documentary opening. This was made by all group members.

Sub-genre (crime)
Stalking, murder
Because it is an interesting sub-genre of crime thriller
Topic
A girl is being stalked by an unknown individual who seems to be terrifyingly obsessed with her
 Primary Target Audience
Demographic: Teenagers, Young adults, Couples

Because relationships can get really complex. At that age, you feel a lot of emotions such as jealousy or obsession, hence people of these age groups would be drawn to this documentary

Psychographic: True crime enthusiasts, Thrill seekers, Curiosity-driven people

We think these groups will be most drawn to our documentary because its main mission is to track down an elusive criminal
Message (Dominant Reading)
Unhealthy obsessions and excessive possessiveness can drive a person to commit unspeakable crimes against the innocent

Because this issue affects people our age, our documentary aims to warn others, raise awareness, and make it clear that such behavior is unacceptable and dangerous
Characters
  • Protagonist: A teenage girl, living an ordinary life with her boyfriend, until she becomes the target of a stalker
  • Boyfriend: Victim of the stalker’s violence
  • Stalker: The antagonist with a hidden identity, driven by jealousy and obsession to kidnap the boyfriend
Representations (groups, places, events)
Groups: Teenagers, Young couples
Places: Girl’s home, School, Public
Events: Stalking, Kidnapping

We have easy access to teenage actors, teenager issues, teenager dramas, etc, making it more authentic and relatable.
These places are familiar environments to teenagers, making danger feel closer and more real to the audience. These places are also easy and free to access.

What will be the hook? (The mystery that keeps audiences watching)
The question of “Who’s stalking her? Why are they willing to go this far? How did this all start?”, along with the shocking package of her boyfriend’s finger.

Changes We Made:

We kept almost everything exactly the same. We made a good idea from the start and stuck with it! The only slight change we made is that when we researched further, we realized there isn’t a specific law in Indonesia about stalking. So, we decided to talk about that in our dominant reading and why we want people to know about this issue. Since this documentary will include both English and Indonesian, our documentary is open both to global and Indonesian audiences.
