Storyboard
Here is my first storyboard, this rough draft served as a starting point but I realized it would be challenging to communicate our vision to the rest of the team with this version. To address this, I created a clearer and more detailed storyboard, which is shown below. This updated version aims to better convey our ideas and provide a more structured plan for the project.
After watching an informative video in class on how to properly create and draw a storyboard, I was confident that I’d be able to create a cohesive storyboard that could bring my group’s ideas to life. However, I needed to incorporate several important details to complete my storyboard. Specifically, I had to include the camera angles and movements that would best capture each scene. Adding this information would ensure that we frame our shots effectively and achieve the desired visual effects. It would also simply be easier to film the opening efficiently with the angles and movements all planned out. Additionally, we needed to specify the sounds that would be used, including diegetic sounds like background noises and non-diegetic elements like music, to enhance the mood and atmosphere of the advert. We also needed to determine the duration of each shot to maintain a smooth flow and keep the audience engaged.
Moreover, including a detailed description of what is happening in each shot would provide a clearer picture of the narrative and help ensure that every scene aligns with our overall vision. These additional elements are crucial for making our advert more dynamic and immersive. However, including descriptions for every shot in the storyboard is very time consuming and rather unnecessary. So, I only did that for the first 4 shots.
Here is the video I watched in class:
Reflecting on the process of creating my storyboard, I can see how important it is for bringing my project to life. The storyboard has helped me organize my ideas visually, making it easier to see how the opening will unfold shot by shot. For my thriller project, where the goal is to create suspense and tension, the storyboard was especially helpful in planning the use of camera angles, lighting, and pacing. I’ve had to think carefully about the sequence of shots to build that sense of unease, and it’s been a challenge to get it just right. Some shots needed adjusting to make sure the mood was consistent and the suspense would build naturally. The process also highlighted the importance of timing – in a thriller, every second counts in building tension. Overall, creating the storyboard has made me more confident in the direction of my project, and it’s giving me a clear visual guide to follow as I move into filming. It’s helped me see my ideas more clearly and think about the technical details that will enhance the thriller atmosphere.
